How to calculate BMI
To calculate your body mass index (BMI), follow these simple steps:
- Measure your weight in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb).
- Measure your height in meters (m) or feet and inches (ft, in).
- Square your height measurement (multiply it by itself).
Once you have these measurements, use the following formula to calculate your BMI:
BMI = weight (kg) / height^2 (m^2)
If you measured your weight in pounds and your height in feet and inches, you’ll need to convert those measurements to metric units before calculating your BMI. You can use online conversion tools to help with this.
Keep in mind that BMI is just one measure of body fat and health, and it may not be accurate for everyone. It doesn’t take into account factors like muscle mass, bone density, or body composition, so it may not give a complete picture of your health status. If you have concerns about your weight or overall health, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your individual situation and provide personalized advice.
